The 2009 directed Halibut fishery is closed. Halibut opportunity is currently limited to the near shore fishery (the area north of 46-58 latitude and east of 124-30 longitude) and only Thursday through Sunday. This opportunity should last through September, however.. This is the area where most bottomfing trips are taken and anglers do occasionally catch some very big halibut.
Rock Fish/Ling Cod:
Both Rockfish and Lingcod are currently open in all areas off Westport. One exception: No retention or possession of LINGCOD in the area south of 46-58 latitude and seaward of 30 fathoms on Fridays and Saturdays, starting July 1 through August 31. The purpose of this regulation is for Yelloweye Rockfish protection. Fishing success has been very good recently.
Salmon:
The salmon season opened Sunday, June 28. In the first few days we saw the best and worst of both the weather and the fishing. Despite that the evidence is that there is a large body of salmon off our coast and we expect some excellent fishing throughout the summer.
The season regulations are as follows: Open Sunday through Thursday of each week through Thursday, July 23. Open 7 days per week starting Friday, July 24 through Sunday, September 20.
Bag limit TWO(2) (One may be a Chinook) PLUS a bonus PINK Salmon (2009 is a Pink year. Effectively the bag limit is 3 when at least 1 is a pink).
QUOTAS: COHO - 65,270, CHINOOK - 11,850.
